Bespoke Window Treatments with Leather Details for Michelin-Starred Chef's New Restaurant

Big Sky Resort is one of North America's most iconic mountain destinations known for its extensive terrain and proximity to Yellowstone National Park. Looking beyond skiing and outdoor adventure, Big Sky Resort set out to establish itself as a world-class culinary destination with the introduction of M by The Alinea Group, led by three-Michelin-starred chef Grant Achatz.

To bring this vision to life, Big Sky Resort selected renowned interior architecture and design firm Fettle to lead the project. Fettle is celebrated for its high-end hospitality work, including the revitalization of The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica and the design of London's 1 Warwick members' club.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding Montana landscape, Fettle created an interior rooted in natural materials and restrained elegance. Raw wood, stone, earthy tones, and forest-inspired patterns define the space, complemented by rustic wood ceiling beams and a striking red travertine bar top. As part of the design, Fettle specified custom window treatments featuring leather strap supports—an element that led to our collaboration with Field Work Design & Craft.

Together, we fabricated bespoke window shades and drapery for the entire restaurant. The 3,200-square-foot dining space is wrapped in expansive windows, each fitted with custom fabric shades constructed to Fettle's specifications in our Topanga studio. The supporting leather straps were also hand-crafted and stitched in-house, ensuring both durability and refined detail.

For the final phase, we traveled to Montana to install each element crafted in our studio. Experiencing the completed space firsthand was especially rewarding, as the finished window treatments brought a final layer of warmth, texture, and craftsmanship to an exceptional dining experience.
